For the first time in the country’s history, Tajikistan is conducting an inventory of road assets, which began in September 2023, as part of the further certification of its road network, the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan (MoT) reports.
"To achieve this, with the support of the Asian Development Bank, the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan acquired the modern ROMDAS road asset management system, developed by the New Zealand company Data Collection Limited (DCL)," says statement released by a MoT.
ROMDAS is a modular system designed to collect road and asset data using any vehicle.
It is noted that, to date, data on 4,407.7 km of roads, which amounts to 79.1% of the total 5,567.9 km of international and republican roads managed by the Ministry of Transport, have been collected.
The ministry emphasizes that digital transformation allows industry enterprises and institutions to stay ahead, effectively using digital technology to improve the speed and quality of their work, increase profitability, and ensure sustainable development.
The statement also mentions that out of 30 digital transformation modules, 13 are under development and operation, which amounts to 44.8% of the production capacity of the State Unitary Enterprise "Center for Digitalization of the Transport Industry."
"These modules include the management of the licensing and certification process, accounting and issuance of permits for international transportation, distribution and control of travel documents and waybills (SMR), road asset management, vehicle weighing, road traffic intensity registration, and more," the MoT noted.
Road asset management is based on an analysis of road data related to inventory, condition, traffic, unit costs, and road deterioration models. The data is entered into a Road Asset Management System (RAMS) that allows the data to be analyzed, and optimal budget levels and allocations to be determined.
