            DUSHANBE, June 2, Asia-Plus — The 20

th

meeting of the council of the CIS security services opened in Dushanbe today.   

According to information from the Ministry of Security, the meeting is aiming to work out concerted measures to address new challenges and threats coming from international terrorism and extremism on the territory of CIS.

Participants in the meeting also will exchange views on the situation with the war on international terrorism and will outline ways of stepping up the search of the people involved in terrorist and extremist activities.

Besides, the meeting will discuss working out concerted measures for the protection of facilities of the fuel and energy complex of the CIS member states against terrorism, for the struggle against illegal drug trafficking and crimes in the sphere of computer information.  

The head of the CIS Antiterrorist Center will make a report at the meeting on the implementation of the program of cooperation between the CIS states in fighting terrorism and extremism for the period of 2005-2007.

The meeting participants also will discuss issues related to drafting an intergovernmental agreement on the exchange of information in the sphere of the war on terrorism and a plan of joint antiterrorist exercises of the CIS security services.

Heads of security services from all CIS states, except Turkmenistan, are supposed to attend the meeting in Dushanbe.  

President Emomali Rahmonov is expected to address the meeting.
