The budget of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) for 2025 is projected to rise by 281.9 million somonis (US$25.8 million at the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT)’s current exchange) compared to 2022, reaching 623 million somonis (US$57 million). This announcement was made by GBAO governor Alisher Mirzonabot at the 22nd session of the GBAO regional legislature on December 24, the GBAO regional administration’s press service reports.
Over the past three years, more than 5 billion somonis (US$457 million) have been invested in the region's economy, with 3 billion somonis (US$274 million) coming through the PamirInvest forum.
During this period, GBAO reportedly completed the construction of 892 projects worth 1.2 billion somonis (US$109.8 million). Industrial production in 2024 reached 300 million somonis (US$27.4 million), an increase of 89 million somonis (US$8.1 million) compared to the previous year.
Key infrastructure projects under discussion include the construction of the segment of the Dushanbe–Khorog–Kulma highway, a bridge in Khorog, roads in Shugnan district, and the Sebzor hydropower plant in Roshtqala district.
The combined value of these projects is 3.7 billion somonis (US$338.4 million).
Speaking at the legislature meeting, GBAO Governor Alisher Mirzonabot emphasized the importance of ideological work and engaging the community, particularly youth, in developing new infrastructure and improving the region.
