The trial regarding the tragic death of 16-year-old Jasour Akramov continued on June 3 at a court in Dushanbe’s Sino district. The case revolves around Bahurullo Yusufzoda, the driver whose car struck and killed Akramov.
Family members and defense lawyers from both sides attended the court session. However, despite the trial being open to the public, journalists from Asia-Plus were once again denied access to the courtroom, leaving the details of the proceedings unknown.
At the end of the session, the father of the deceased, Firdavs Akramov, spoke with Asia-Plus. He confirmed that the court had heard from a witness—the uncle of the accused. "The uncle of the defendant is the owner of the car that killed my son. Bahurullo Yusufzoda was driving it," he shared.
The statement from the defendant’s uncle is yet to be made public, as the Asia-Plus’s reporter was unable to reach him for comment outside the court building.
After the session, Zarniyor Shoyeva, the mother of Bahurullo Yusufzoda, told reporters that, as a mother, she sympathizes with the family of the deceased. She believes that the tragedy occurred due to a mistake made by her son. "My son never intended for this tragedy to happen. He also has three children of his own. That’s why he wrote a letter of apology to Jasour Akramov’s parents," she said.
However, Firdavs Akramov stated that they have yet to receive any such letter from Bahurullo Yusufzoda.
In an open letter to the country’s leadership, Firdavs Akramov expressed concern over the involvement of the defendant’s father in law enforcement. He worried that this could allow the defendant to "escape just punishment."
In response, the defendant's lawyer confirmed today that the accused’s father works as a police officer and plans to attend the next court session.
The next session is scheduled for June 11.
The trial began on June 2, and despite being announced as an open trial, journalists were not granted access to the courtroom.
The accident involving Bahurullo Yusufzoda occurred on April 3, 2025, around 4:30 p.m. on Bobojon-Ghafourov Street in Dushanbe’s Sino district. Yusufzoda's car struck 16-year-old Jasour Akramov, who later died from his injuries on the way to the hospital. The cause of the crash is believed to be Yusufzoda’s failure to control the vehicle.
Bahurullo Yusufzoda faces criminal charges under Article 212 (4) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code, which pertains to violating traffic rules resulting in death. The charge carries a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years. Yusufzoda has admitted his guilt.
The case has drawn significant attention, especially after Firdavs Akramov published an open letter to President Emomali Rahmon, Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali, and Prosecutor-General Habibullo Vohidzoda, urging them to take personal control of the investigation.
