Putin: Russia needs the “right” kind of workforce

Asia-Plus

During a visit to Dushanbe, President Vladimir Putin emphasized that while Russia is in need of labor, the country is focused on attracting a workforce that aligns with its national interests and complies with local laws.  His remarks were made to journalists following a series of high-level meetings in Tajikistan, according to RBC.

“Russia is interested in labor resources, but it is crucial that they meet our needs. In addition, people must live in humane conditions and follow our laws and regulations. I always stress that they must be law-abiding,” Putin stated.

The Russian president acknowledged ongoing challenges in the field of labor migration. “There are many issues — and Russian citizens point them out. First and foremost, we need to think about our compatriots,” he added.

Putin was in Tajikistan to participate in the "Central Asia – Russia" summit and a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State. He also held a number of bilateral talks.

At a press conference on October 9 following discussions with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Putin noted that over one million Tajik citizens currently live and work in Russia.

“They are employed in various sectors, especially in rapidly developing ones such as construction, housing and utilities, transport, and logistics. They make a significant contribution to the growth of the Russian economy,” he said.

Putin also emphasized that the Russian government is working to ensure fair and decent working conditions for Tajik nationals in the country.
