Tajikistan to host Regional Agricultural Council for Europe and Central Asia in 2026

Date:

Tajikistan will host the 2026 session of the Agricultural Council for Europe and Central Asia, a key regional platform under the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).  In parallel, efforts will be accelerated to establish the House of Tajikistan at FAO headquarters, according to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Agriculture.

The MoA press center says these developments were discussed during a meeting between Tajikistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Qurbon Hakimzoda, and Maurizio Martina, FAO’s Deputy Director-General, held in Rome on the sidelines of FAO’s 80th anniversary celebrations.

The talks reportedly focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and attracting additional investment into the country’s agrarian  sector. Particular emphasis was placed on enhancing food security and promoting sustainable rural development through deeper collaboration with FAO.

The Agricultural Council for Europe and Central Asia is the regional session of the FAO’s European Commission on Agriculture (ECA). It convenes every two years to discuss pressing issues in agriculture, food security, and regional cooperation. Tajikistan has reportedly been a member of the Council since 1995.

By hosting the 2026 session, Tajikistan aims to boost its role in regional agricultural policy and further integrate into global efforts to advance sustainable food systems.
