, February 22, Asia-Plus – A two-day international conference on the establishment of the Tajik National Institute for Human Rights opened in

Dushanbe

on Wednesday, February 22.

Participants of the conference staged by the UNTOP and the

OSCE

Center

in

Dushanbe

include some 80 people.

Ms. Lilia Zakhariyeva, Human Rights Adviser, the United Nations Tajik Office of Peace-Building (UNTOP), has told Asia-Plus that during the conference it was noted that ordinary citizens could not properly address issues related to human rights problems to any organ, except courts.

The establishment of the independent and impartial institute for human rights might retrieve public’s trust in legal and judicial organs as well as become a mechanism of supplement to the system of justice, Ms. Zakhariyeva noted.

According to her, the conference may lay a foundation and determine laws and other measures necessary for the establishment of this institute in the republic, which would meet international standards.

All materials presented at the conference will be published and distributed to state organs and NGOs.

Information of the Asia-Plus:
