DUSHANBE, March 4, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The upcoming visit of Tajik leader to Iran was a major topic of a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ali-Asghar Sherdoust that was held in Dushanbe on March 4.

According to presidential press service, the two, in particular, discussed issues related to participation of President Rahmon at the 10th summit meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) that will be held in the Iranian capital on March 11.

During his stay in Iran, President Rahmon will also visit a number of Iran’s provinces.

The sides noted that Tajikistan and Iran might work out joint measures to mitigate effects of the global financial crisis.

Rahmon and Sherdoust also discussed the progress of construction of Iranian-built Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant (HPP) as well as implementation of other joint projects in Tajikistan, the press service said.
