DUSHANBE/KHUJAND, March 4, 2009, Asia-Plus — Negotiations between Tajik and Kyrgyz delegations that were held in Khujand on March 3 resulted in signing of a protocol.
Under this document, Tajikistan, in particular, permits Kyrgyzstan to build the road Osh-Batken via Sughd’s Isfara district, according to the Security Council.
Construction of the road via Isfara will allow shortening transit time, the source at the Security Council said.
As it had been reported earlier, Tajik and Kyrgyz security council secretaries heading government delegations met in Khujand, the capital of the Sughd province yesterday to discuss a broad range of issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in different fields.
The Tajik delegation members included the Security Council Secretary Amirqul Azimov, land Reclamation and Water Resources Minister Said Yoqubaod, high-ranking officers from law enforcement and security services, senior experts from the Agency for Geodesy and Cartography, as well as the Sughd governor Qohir Rasoulzoda.
The Kyrgyz delegation consisted of the Security Council Secretary Adakhan Madumorav, Border Service chief Zamirbek Moldoshev, Batken governor Muratbek Jumabekov, as well as high-ranking officers from the border service, special services and the Batken police directorate.
During the meeting, the sides reached an agreement in interaction between Tajik and Kyrgyz border guards in settling possible conflict situations on the border.
Today, the delegations are visiting Isfara and Batken stretches of Tajikistan’s common border with Kyrgyzstan.
