Dushanbe. June 24. “Asia-Plus” — In the past half year the Traffic Police of the Tajik Ministry of Interior issued 4,500 permissions to Tajik drivers for tinted glass, Sherafgan Latifov, a spokesman for the Tajik Interior Ministry’s Traffic Police Department, told the AP.

He said the funds gained from sale of these permissions, which made nearly 10mln Somoni (some USd $2,2mln), have been transferred to special account for construction of Rogun hydropower plant.

In late 2009 Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon entrusted the parliament and Tajik Ministry of Interior to study the issue of paid licensing of tinted glasses of vehicles and transfer the collected funds for the construction of Rogun HPP. In January 2010 the lower chamber of Tajikistan’s parliament has introduced a series of amendments into the current legislation of the country.

According to these amendments, drivers who wish to tint glass of their vehicles should pay 2,190 Somoni (USD $500), while drivers with unauthorized tinting should pay a 4,380 Somoni (USD $1000) fine.

“After introduction of official tinting, the number of unauthorized tinting facts has rapidly decreased and have almost disappeared,” Latifov has said.
