DUSHANBE, May 9, 2010, Asia-Plus – Seven veterans of World War II and a detachment of the Tajik Ministry of Defense (MoD) are being present at a military parade commemorating the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 that is taking place in Moscow today.
A company of cadets of Tajik Military Institute numbering 70 persons and seven war veterans from Tajikistan, namely Grigory Alekseyev, Zokirjon Niyozov, Komil Rahmonov, Shamsi Roziqov, Karim Sanginov, Yunus Yusupov and Jamshed Yusupov are being present at the military parade on Moscow’s Red Square.
The Moscow Victory Parade of 2010 is the largest parade that has ever been held in Moscow during the post-Soviet years. Some 10,000 military personnel are being present at the parade and air-defense systems, helicopters, and missiles are being on show.
Also this is the first parade that will include military units from other countries. France, Britain, United States and the Soviet Union”s major allies in World War II, are taking part in the parade.
Leaders of the CIS member states and some other countries are attending festivities today to mark the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II, or the Great Patriotic War, as it is known in the CIS member states.
Victory Day marks the end of World War II I Europe, specifically the capitulation of Nazi forces to the Allies (the United Kingdom, Soviet Union, France, the United States and other principal Allied nations) on May 8, 1945.
In Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries of former Soviet Union, the day of Victory over Nazi Germany was celebrated on May 9, because when the German Instrument of Surrender actually entered into force (May 8, 1945 at 23:01 CET), it was already May 9 by Moscow Time. Post-Soviet countries have continued the tradition.
