DUSHANBE, May 4, 2010, Asia-Plus — More than 1,000 schools with a total of 157,000 seats are expected to be built in Tajikistan in 2011-2016, according to the Ministry of Education (MoE).
The source at a MoE says the ministry also intends to publish 23.2 million copies of textbooks in connection with nationwide shift to a 12-year- secondary education (the 12-year secondary education is supposed to be introduced in the country in 2016). “Over the report period (2011-2016), the country’s requirements for teachers will increase by 14,700,” said he, “However, according to the preliminary estimates, teachers’ training institutes will turn out some 38,000 teachers over the report period.”
Of those more than 1,000 schools, 77 will be built in 2010-2012 in the framework of investment projects for a total amount of 41 million U.S. dollars that will provide 21,600 new school seats, the source added.
