DUSHANBE, April 23, 2010, Asia-Plus — Police in Dushanbe burned 578 kilograms of narcotics today, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
A totaled included 160 kilograms of heroin, 220 kilograms of raw opium and 225 kilograms of cannabis.
The source at a MoI said that the drugs were confiscated in the course of 2009-2010 and were material evidences in 225 criminal proceedings instituted against 258 people, including seven nationals of Afghanistan.
The drugs were destroyed in the presence of representatives from law enforcement agencies, international organizations, officers of justice and media.
Over the first three months of this year, Tajik law enforcement authorities have seized 1,275 kilograms of narcotics, including 352 kilograms of heroin, 311 kilograms of raw opium and 610 kilograms of cannabis, the source said.
