KHUJAND, April 14, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The 39-year-old resident of the village of Punuk in Sughd’s Asht district Ismoil Sobirov has got a long jail term for killing his mother.

The Sughd regional court sentenced Ismoil Sobirov to 25 years in prison on April 14.  The sentence followed his conviction on charges of brutal killing (Article 104, Part 2 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).  Sobirov will serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.

The source at the Sughd regional court told Asia-Plus that Sobirov beat his mother to death on December 27, 2009.  “He considered that his mother is to blame for his arrest in 2006.  He was arrested on drug trafficking charges in 2006 and his mother witnessed against him,” the source said.
