Agroinvestbonk reportedly increases lending to Kulob region

KULOB, April 6, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Over the first three months of this year, branches of Agroinvestbonk in Khatlon’s Kulob zone have provided 9.224 million somoni in loans, which 67 percent more than in the same period of 2009, Asia-Plus has learned from  Sayfiddin Qadamov, the head of Agroinvestbonk’s main branch in Kulob.

According to him, 37 percent of the overall amount of loans has been provided to commercial organizations and private entrepreneurs.  “35 percent of loans has been provided to the industrial, transportation and communications sectors as well as to labor migrants traveling to Russia and Kazakhstan, and 27 percent has gone to supporting development of the agrarian sector,” Qadamov said.

The bank has provided 647,000 somoni from its own funds to cotton farmers in Farkhor, Kulob and Vose districts.  “To-date, the bank has concluded loan agreements with 370 farming units in four cotton producing districts of the zone for a total amount of 2.823 million somoni,” Qadamov said, adding that they have received loan applications from local farmers for a total amount of 12.48 million somoni.

Founded in 1992, Agroinvestbonk, with headquarters in Dushanbe, has main branches in Khorog, Khujand, Kulob and Qurghon Teppa and 61 other branches across the republic.  Agroinvestbonk  is the second largest commercial bank in Tajikistan and one of the leading providers of finance to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and the agricultural sector in Tajikistan.
