Spring grain crop sowing campaign progressing in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, April 6, 2010, Asia-Plus  — A spring grain crop sowing campaign is progressing in Tajikistan and local farmers have planted spring gain crops on some 70,000 hectares (wheat has been planted on 42,000 ha) to this day, which is 58 percent of lands allocated to spring grain crops this year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

This year, Tajikistan has allocated more than 118,000 hectares to the spring grain crops, the source at a MoA said.

According to him, the southern Khatlon province has already fulfilled its spring grain crop planting target.  They have planted spring grain crops on 23,100 hectares.

Farmers in Sughd province have reached 45 percent of their spring grain crop sowing target.  55,900 hectares have been allocated to spring grain crops in Sughd this year.

Districts subordinate to the center have reached 58 percent of the target by April 6.  35,000 hectares have been allocated in districts subordinate to the center to spring grain crops this year.

In Gorno Badakhshan, the spring grain crop planting campaign has not yet been launched.  This year, the GBAO farmers are planned to plant spring grain crops on 4,600 hectares

We will recall that winter gain crops have been planted on 197,800 hectares (99 percent of the target determined at 200,000 ha).

Last year, Tajik farmers yielded 1.3 million tons of grains from 463,000 hectares.
