DUSHANBE, March 1, 2010, Asia-Plus — As a whole, the election observation mission of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is satisfied with the process of the parliamentary elections that took place in Tajikistan on February 28, the SCO observation election mission head Mikhail Konarovsky told reporters in Dushanbe on March 1.
According to him, the elections were held in open and democratic atmosphere and complied with requirements of the country’s legislation, despite separate shortcomings.
The SCO election observation comprised 16 members, including representatives from China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Uzbekistan.
The mission members were divided into four groups and visited polling stations in Dushanbe and nearby districts, Konarovsky said.
“The voting took place in free and transparent atmosphere and no election-related complaints were officially submitted to our mission,” said the SCO election observation mission head, “Only at one polling station, we recorded an instance of violation of the election law: two voters entered polling booth simultaneously, which is in contrary with the parliamentary elections code.”
The SCO election observation mission for the February 28 parliamentary elections in Tajikistan arrived in Dushanbe on February 24 and it stay here until March 1.
