DUSHANBE, February 18, 2010, Asia-Plus  — In answer to a statement by Shamsiddin Said, a spokesman for the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT), about numerous instances of violation of the parliamentary elections code, the Supreme Court of Tajikistan has released an official response today.

According to the Supreme Court, country’s courts have considered eight lawsuits filed by political parties and interested persons over election law violations by February 17.

Three of those lawsuits concerned non-inclusion of representative of political parties in electoral commissions, one case concerned repeal of decision on nomination of candidate for the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament).  There were also cases concerning repeal of decision on nomination of candidates for city legislatures as well as complaints about improper work heads of electoral commissions and non-registration of people who applied as candidates for local legislature.

Courts have delivered appropriate judgments on all these cases, the Supreme Court said.

The letter by the Supreme Court, in particular, notes, that four of those eight lawsuits have been filed by the Islamic Revival Party.  The statement by Shamsiddin Said that all appeals of the Islamic Revival have allegedly remained unconsidered is baseless, according to the Supreme Court.
