DUSHANBE, February 18, 2010, Asia-Plus  — A court case pitting the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) against Major Saudllo Solehov, an officer with police department of Dushanbe’s Sino district, began in the Sino district court yesterday afternoon.

According to IRPT’s head office in Dushanbe, the party filed a lawsuit against the police officer because he was impeding work of two agitators of the party during the pre-election campaign.

Last week, Major Solehov detained two women – Salomat Kholiqova and Bibirobiya Sanginova –who were spreading leaflets of agitation for the IRPT candidate.  “They were taken to the police department for questioning and were released the same day after interference of the IRPT,” said the source.  “The party filed lawsuit against Major Solehov accusing him of violating the parliamentary elections code.”

According to him, the police officer admitted his error during the preliminary hearing and apologized to Kholigova and Sanginova.  The trial will continue on February 22.
