DUSHANBE, February 9, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Tajik variety singer Farzona Khurshed, a member of Tajikistan’s known pop dynasty, consider herself innocent of charges she faces.

She stated this on February 9 in the court of Dushanbe’s Sino district.  The trial of Farzona Khurshed began Tuesday morning and although judges had earlier assured that the trial would be open, journalists were not allowed to attend the trial.  Only in the afternoon, journalists were allowed to attend the trial for a while.

Farzona Khurshed is accused of allegedly helping her fiancé Farrukh Rouziyev to flee his trial on January 16 this year.

Farzona Khurshed, Farrukh Rouziyev and two guards who had been warding Rouziyev are standing trial.  It turned out that Rouziyev and the warders admitted guilt partially.

The trial is now being held behind closed doors.

The police arrested Farzona Khurshed and Farrukh Rouziyev the next day after Rouziyev’s trial began (January 17).  Farzona was released on January 19 after a three-day detention but several days later she was arrested again.

According to the Dushanbe prosecutor’s office, Farrukh Rouziyev is charged with forgery and hooliganism.  The deputy Dushanbe prosecutor, Rahim Jangiyev, says Farzona faces charge of complicity to escape.
