Tajik CCI head receives delegation of Iran’s Golestan province

DUSHANBE, February 5, 2010, Asia-Plus — Chairman of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Sharif Said, yesterday met here with delegation of Iran’s Golestan province, led by MP Nazar Mehr, according to the CCI press service.

The sides discussed issues related to expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran.

The CCI head noted that although Tajik-Iranian economic cooperation showed an upward tendency there was room for expansion of bilateral economic ties between the two countries.

For his part, Nazar Mehr noted that Golestan was one of leaders in Iran on producing grains and vegetable oil.

He noted that some Iranian entrepreneurs were successfully working in Tajikistan and others would also like to establish mutually beneficial cooperation with Tajik companies, especially in the field of agriculture (seed farming, pistachio growing, animal husbandry, fishery and poultry).

Sharif Said offered Iranian guest to organize an exhibition of their products in Dushanbe in order to acquaint Tajiks with products of the Golestan province.

Golestan is one of the 30 provinces of Iran, located in the north-east of the country, south of the Caspian Sea. Its capital is Gorgan.

Golestan was split off from the province of Mazandaran in 1997.  It has a population of 1.7 million (2005) and an area of 20,380 square kilometers.  Golestan is the World leading producer of Caviar.  The World”s second longest wall (after the China Wall) is in the region of Gorgan.
