KHOROG, January 28, 2010, Asia-Plus  — 172 candidates have been nominated to compete for 61 seats in the regional legislature of Gorno Badakhshan.

Tavakkal Ramazonov, head of the regional electoral commission, told Asia-Plus that the People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) had nominated candidates for election to the GBAO regional legislature in 60 constituencies. The Communist Party (CPT) nominated 26 candidates, the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) – 21 candidates, the Agrarian Party (APT) – 5 candidates, and the Social-Democratic (SDPT) and Democratic (DPT) parties – 1 candidate each.  “Besides, there are 57 self-propelled candidates,” Ramazonov said.

According to him, the commission will study candidates’ documents until February 8 and “then the final of list of candidates will be made public.”
