DUSHANBE, February 10, 2009, Asia-Plus — It was a packed flight from Moscow to Dushanbe, but passengers and crew were more than happy to make room for one extra person on the night of February 9-10 when Nargis Dostiyeva gave birth to a baby girl.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Ms. Nazira Davlatova, a spokeswoman for Tajik air company, Tajik Air, said that during registration of the flight at the Domodedovo airport in Moscow, Nargis Dostiyeva had not informed the airport employees and the crew that she was at the last stage of pregnancy.
“Therefore, nobody expected mom-to-be Nargis to go into labor on the flight,” said the spokeswoman. “However, several minutes after takeoff birth pangs started. Fortunately there was medical worker (anesthesiologist), among passengers, and with assistance of air hostesses, she helped Nargis with delivery of the baby.” The baby came out came out 1.5 hours after takeoff. After landing, the baby and her mother were rushed to Dushanbe maternity house # 2.
We will recall that it is the second case in history of Tajik national air carrier. The first case occurred on December 23, 2007, when baby was born on a plane of Tajik Air on the flight from St. Petersburg to Dushanbe.
