KHOROG, December 15, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The organization of the People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) for Gorno Badakhshan held an annual conference to hear reports and elect new officials in Khorog on December 12.

The conference reviewed the organization’s work carried out over the past five years and discussed preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections due in February 2010.

The conference also elected new members of the organization’s board and 50 delegates to represent the organization at the PDPT republican congress, scheduled for December 26.  

The newly elected chairman of the PDPT organization in Gorno Badakhshan, Shamsiddin Orumbekov, the deputy governor of region, told Asia-Plus on December 13 that the organization now has more than 7,000 members.

According to him, the conference, in particular, discussed cooperation of the party members with all political parties and public association for development of the country.  “The PDPT should promote holding of free and transparent elections and support deserved candidates for parliament irrespective of the party they belong to,” Orumbekov said.
