Dushanbe. December 10. Asia-Plus — A conference dedicated to the International Human Rights Day “On the way to integrated system of promotion, protection and implementation of human rights in Tajikistan” is taking place today in Dushanbe.
The event was organized by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in the frameworks of the “State Enhancement for the Improved Governance” project in collaboration with a series of other international partner organizations.
This single-day event has brought together more than 80 people including deputies of the Parliament of Tajikistan, representatives of the President’s Office, ministries and departments as well as academicians, representatives of civil society and international organizations.
According to organizers, the overall goal of the conference is to analyze the activity in human rights sector for 2009.
Furthermore, conference participants will share their experience and are planning to discuss the prospects and recommendations on the development of human rights in Tajikistan, touch upon the issues of the formation and development of the National Ombudsman Institute, its coordinating role in promotion and protection of human rights, implementation of all governmental programmes in this sector and submission of national reports to UN bodies.
Human Rights Day is celebrated annually on December 10 to commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was proclaimed 61 years ago. It was proclaimed in 1948 and become the first global enunciation of human rights.
