DUSHANBE, December 3, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Germany is continuing to provide technical assistance to Tajik counternarcotics agency.

A ceremony of handover of technical supplies and vehicles for a total amount of 100,000 U.S dollars was held at the Tajik Drug Control Agency yesterday.

According to DCA, the German side provides technical assistance to Tajik law enforcement authorities every year in the framework of international cooperation.  Besides, the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany (BKA) supports a number of projects aimed at raising professionalism of personnel of Tajik law enforcement agencies.

International Operation TARCET, an anti-trafficking initiative to prevent the smuggling of chemicals to Afghanistan for use in the illicit manufacture of heroin, is annually carried out in Tajikistan and representatives from BKA take an active part in organizing and carrying out this operation along with instructing Tajik law enforcement officers in methods of carrying out this operation, the DCA press service said.

We will recall that last week, the German Embassy in Dushanbe handed over technical assistance to the Ministry of Interior.
