DUSHANBE, December 3, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Traffic police officers have found abandoned firearms in the southern province of Khatlon, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

On Tuesday December 1, traffic police officer found one-shot disposable grenade launcher while inspecting the Tursunzoda Street in the city of Qurghon Teppa, the capital of the Khatlon province.

The same day, the chief of the traffic police department in Khatlon’s Vose district found an assault rifle Kalashnikov at the bridge across the Yakhsou River.

Since the beginning of this year, Tajik law enforcement authorities have confiscated some 900 firearms, including 231 assault rifles Kalashnikov, 119 pistols and 156 rifles from the population, the MoI source added.
