This year, the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, allocated 50,000 somoni to each veteran of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 (GPW of 1941-1945) living in Tajikistan, of whom there are currently 8 people remaining. This was reported to Asia-Plus by the Deputy Chairman of the Council of War and Labor Veterans of Tajikistan, Alisher Sharifov.
According to him, these funds will be handed over to all GPW veterans before May 9. It is unknown whether they were allocated from the national budget or from the special president’s fund.
Last year, the president also allocated 50,000 somoni to each GPW veteran living in the country, of whom there were 17 people at that time.
Annually, on the occasion of Victory Day, local authorities also allocate funds to GPW veterans residing in their regions.
It is unknown how much funds were allocated to the GPW participants by the Dushanbe mayor’s office and the administration of the Khatlon province.
This year, the authorities of the Sughd province allocated 25,000 somoni to each GPW veteran living in the province, of whom there are 2 people remaining in the region. In addition, each home front worker (of whom there are 39 people) will be paid 10,000 somoni, totaling 390,000 somoni.
Moreover, annually, on behalf of the heads of cities and districts, material assistance is also provided to the GPW veterans residing on site.
As of April 30, 2026, there are 8 GPW veterans residing in Tajikistan.
Today, it became known that on April 30th, GPW veteran Mirzo Ghafourov from the Khuroson district of the Khatlon province passed away at the age of 100. Three days prior, on April 27th, Rajab Ismonov, the last GPW veteran from Gissar, also passed away at the age of 100.
In 2005, the number of GPW veterans was 9,900 people, in 2020 — 168, in 2021 — 98, in 2022 — 59, in 2023 — 42, in 2024 — 24, and in 2025 — 17 people.
Over 22 years, 9,890 veterans of the Great Patriotic War from Tajikistan have passed away.
More than 300,000 residents of Tajikistan reportedly took part in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and 92,000 of them died in battle. 55 of residents of Tajikistan were given the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Besides, 15 other Tajikistan’s residents were Full Holders of the Order of Glory.
