The government of Tajikistan has increased import customs duty rates on certain types of air conditioners, chandeliers, and other electrical lighting equipment.

The relevant government’s decree No. 209 was adopted on April 28, 2026. The document will come into force on July 1, 2026.

According to the decree, for certain types of air conditioning installations, the import customs duty rate is increased from 5 to 15 euros (per unit).

This specifically concerns window, wall, ceiling, or floor-type air conditioners, in a single unit or in the form of split systems, as well as separate industrial air conditioners with automatic temperature and humidity control.

The rate also increases for a number of items in the group of chandeliers and other electrical lighting equipment — ceiling or wall-mounted. For these goods, the duty rises from 15 to 30 euros.

The list includes certain types of lamps designed for use with LED light sources, as well as products made from plastic, ceramics, glass, and other materials.

The decree does not specify the reasons for the rate increase. Usually, such measures are applied to regulate imports, protect the domestic market, support local producers, or increase budget revenues.

The increase in duties may raise importers’ expenses, but its impact on final prices for consumers will depend on the purchase cost of goods, logistics, exchange rates, inventory levels, and retailers’ markup.

The amount of customs duty, calculated in euros, will be paid in the national currency — at the rate of the National Bank of Tajikistan on the day the customs declaration is accepted by customs authorities or the goods are released.

The decree was signed by the head of the government, Emomali Rahmon.
