DUSHANBE, November 4, 2009, Asia-Plus — Speaking at a Tajik-Polish business forum that was held in Dushanbe yesterday, Polish Deputy Minister of Economy, Martin Korolets offered not to delay setting up a Tajik-Polish intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation.
“Although Poland is not the most important economic partner of Tajikistan, there is a good potential for expansion of bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries,” said Polish official, “Poland could become Tajikistan’s business gateway to Europe. Taking into account the significance of cooperation with Tajikistan, Poland is ready to conduct concrete negotiations on providing preferential government credit to Tajikistan for implementation of projects for construction of roads and development of pharmaceutics, mechanical engineering and mining in Tajikistan.”
Mr. Korolets invited Tajik experts to visit Poland’s entrepreneurship development agency for exchange of experience in developing small and medium-sized enterprises. “I hope we will be able to hold a session of the joint commission for economic cooperation in Poland next year,” he said.
Polish deputy economy minister arrived in Tajikistan yesterday morning at the head of a delegation, which includes 8 representatives of the government and 11 top managers of a number of large companies of Poland.
Yesterday, Mr. Korolets held talks with Deputy Prime Minister Asadullo Ghulomov, Minister of Finance Safarali Najmiddinov, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Farrukh Hamraliyev and Minister of Agriculture Qosim Qosimov.
Mr. Korolets left for Poland today morning, while visiting Polish businessmen will still in Tajikistan until November 6. They are scheduled to meet with Davlatali Saidov, the head of the State Committee for Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), and visit a number of industrial enterprises in different regions of the country.
