Tajik leader holds a number of bilateral meetings with some of his CIS counterparts in Astana to discuss cooperation

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met with his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, on April 21 on the sidelines of the Regional Ecological Summit to discuss the development of trade and economic cooperation, the expansion of investments, and the strengthening of strategic partnership, according to the tajik president’s official website.

The two leaders reportedly discussed the current state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral relations and confirmed their course towards further development within the framework of alliance, notes the press service of the Tajik head of state.

Special attention was paid to enhancing cooperation in industry, transport, logistics, and agriculture, as well as the implementation of digital solutions, innovations, and technologies, including artificial intelligence.

It was noted that by the end of 2025, mutual trade turnover reached 1.2 billion dollars.

The parties reportedly emphasized the importance of maintaining regular political dialogue, as well as expanding cultural and educational exchanges.

In the field of security, the discussion focused on strengthening cooperation in military and military-technical areas and jointly countering modern threats.

Additionally, the presidents discussed international agenda issues, including the Regional Environmental Summit and the meeting of the Council of Heads of State Founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, taking place these days in the capital of Kazakhstan.

On the same day in Astana, Emomali Rahmon met with the President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan. The parties reportedly exchanged views on issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Rahmon noted that the relations between Tajikistan and Armenia are based on traditions of friendship and mutual respect.

The prospects for interaction in political, economic, and humanitarian areas, as well as issues of regional security, were discussed. The President of Tajikistan confirmed the commitment to peaceful conflict resolution through political and diplomatic means.

The Regional Environmental Summit 2026 (RES 2026) is being held in Astana from April 22 to 24.

It has brought together Central Asian countries to form a coordinated dialogue on key climate and environmental issues.
