KHOROG, October 12, 2009, Asia-Plus — Internet is becoming more and more available in Khorog, the capital of Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (Gorno Badakhshan or GBAO) day by day.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Latif Hokimbekov, an employee of Internet provider Tojiktelecom in Khorog, said that all subscribers to the Tojiktelecom telecommunications network in Khorog might enter Internet at the rate of 2 dirams per minute.
According to him, some 200 residents of Khorog now use services offered by Tojiktelecom.
In Gorno Badakhshan, Internet is still available only in Khorog and subscribers to the Internet provider Telecom Technology constitute some 80 percent of Internet users in the area.
Expansion of opportunities of Tojiktelecom in Khorog will become a good incentive for improvement of quality of Internet services in the region.
In the meantime, the head of Tojiktelecom’s branch in Gorno Badakhshan Safar Mulkamonov told Asia-Plus that they were completing installation of an optical-fiber communications line Dushanbe-Darvoz-Khorog-Kulma, which will be more than 1,000 kilometers in length. The line is expected to be finished in November this year. This optical-fiber communications line will provide all districts of Gorno Badakhshan with access to Internet.
