KULOB, October 2, 2009, Asia-Plus — The trial of three top managers of the joint-venture Darvoz (gold-mining company) – former director general Davlatali Abdulov, chief power engineering specialist Bakhtiyor Sayfuddinov and chief accountant Saidakram Abdulkhairov – began in Kulob’s regional court today.
Proceedings started with the reading of the indictment, which charges them which embezzlement and misappropriation of funds.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Alfattoh Roziqov, the deputy Khatlon prosecutor in charge of the Kulob zone, said that the trial should have been started five years ago already, “but members of the Khovaling district legislature (Majlis) had been refusing the application by the Kulob prosecutor’s office for repealing inviolability of its member Davlatali Abdulov four times.”
“This time, members of the Khovaling Majlis have also refused the application for repealing Abdulov’s inviolability,” said the prosecutor, “They have just given consent for conducting the trial.”
According to him, the Dushanbe prosecutor’s office instituted criminal proceedings against top managers of the JV Darvoz in 2004 already for a 171,214 somoni damage caused to state.
“However, members of the Khovaling legislature had refused to adopt decision regarding the repeal of inviolability of the legislature member Davlatali Abdulov and criminal proceedings instituted against him had been transferred to the Khovaling prosecutor’s office,” said Roziqov, “However, the Khovaling legislature had even refused to consider the application lodged by the Khovaling prosecutor’s office. Criminal proceedings hade been suspended and were resumed only in late March this year.”
The matter is of financial machinations of many millions of somoni, the prosecutor noted.
