DUSHANBE, September 23, 2009, Asia-Plus  – 50,000 maps have been developed and produced by the Swiss company Orell Füssli Kartographie AG, based in Zurich, in close collaboration with the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan, according to the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan.

The project has been initiated and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The school maps are meant first and foremost for schoolchildren to help them develop a better knowledge and spatial orientation of their country. The maps have been handed over to the Ministry of Education of Tajikistan, which afterwards will take up the responsibility for their distribution to all schools throughout the country.

The school map is designed in the scale of 1:800.000 in the world-known Swiss mapping manner, which makes it an efficient tool that provides students with modern and accurate educational material.

The product is printed on both sides: the main map shows a topographical overview on the front page, while the reverse page presents a series of thematic maps of various types in smaller scales as well as statistical data about the country.

Orell Füssli Kartographie AG is a leading company in digital cartography in Switzerland, and produces a variety of cartographic products, such as school maps, geological and hydro-geological maps, linguistic atlases, city maps and hiking maps.  The present project is a continuation of good collaboration between SDC and the company.  In earlier year Orell Füssli Kartographie AG created on demand of SDC three tourist maps for Tajikistan in the scale of 1:500.000.  The maps together cover the whole country and serve as a valuable aid tool for visitors willing to explore the beauty of Tajikistan from inside.
