Russian MFA official denies possibility of imposition of visa regime for Tajik, Azeri and Uzbek citizens

Date:

DUSHANBE, August 24, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Andrey Denisov, has denied the possibility of Russia’s imposition of a visa regime for citizens of Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reports.

Commenting on the possibility of Russia’s imposition of the visa regime for citizens of the mentioned countries, Denisov said that that possibility was equal to naught.  According to him, there are many political, economic and humanitarian factors that make imposition of visa regime for nationals of those countries impossible.

Earlier, a group of Russian politicians suggested that the visa regime should be imposed for nationals of migrant-sending countries, like Tajikistan and even initiated drive for signatures in the country.

“Migration processes should be carried out and regulated on the basis of interstate agreements,” Denisov said.
