DUSHANBE, July 10, Asia-Plus — In a report released at a press conference in Dushanbe, director of Tojikstandart (Tajik state agency for standardization, certification, metrology and trade inspection) Davlatali Hotamov revealed on July 10 that import of low-quality food products into the country is increasing.
According to him, the results of tests by Tojikstandart’s labs have shown that 11 percent of vegetable oil imported into the country over the first six months of this year does not meet requirements of Tajikistan’s state standards. “4 percent of dairy products, 9.2 percent of confectionery, 8.3 percent of meat products, 16 percent of tobaccos, 21 percent of soft drinks and 38.2 percent of alcohol drinks imported into Tajikistan over the report period also do not meet the Tajik state standard requirements”
Using limitation on inspections, some enterprises have increased production and realization of low-quality products without certificate of conformity, the Tojikstandart director noted.
In January-June this year, specialists from Tojikstandart have inspected more than 1,200 facilities across the country. “Inspections have resulted in 313 consignments of low-quality products being taken out of realization,” Hotamov said, noting that violators of standard requirements have been fined a total of 10,500 somonis.
