DUSHANBE, June 23, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Today morning, President Emomali Rahmon, who is currently on a six-day visit to the northern Sughd province, attended a ceremony of opening a new bridge across the Syrdarya River joining the city of Khujand and the Bobojonghafruov district, according to presidential press service.

Speaking at the inaugurating ceremony, President Rahmon noted that opening of the new bridge was one of significant events ahead of a National Unity Day and proposed to call it the Bridge of National Unity.  Tajik leader noted that the bridge was of regional and international significance.

This bridge – 472 meters long and 8 metes across – was built in the framework of the Dushanbe-Khujand-Chanak highway rehabilitation project.  The project has been implemented by China’s construction company, China Road and Bridge Group (H.K.) Limited.  China has invested more than 450 million somoni in this project.

President Rahmon also inaugurated the Rehabilitation Center for Cardiovascular Diseases in Khujand.  50 medical workers will work for the center with a total of 30 beds.  The center is provided with modern equipment due to funds allocated from the national budget.
