Date:

DUSHANBE, June 22, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Тhe third of four buildings for the orphanage for children with intellectual disabilities, Chorbogh, in the Varzob district was put into commission last Thursday.

According to the orphanage principal, Ms. Mavlouda Saidahmadova, 3.5 million somoni (TJS) have been allocated from the national budget for construction of the third building that will be house for 20 disabled children.  “The autonomous boiler house to supply heating to all the three buildings of the orphanages was also introduced into operation the same day,” the principal said.

The first two buildings of the orphanage are currently houses for 185 children with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Built due to 1 million somoni allocated from presidential reserve fund, the fist building was put into commissions in September 2007 and the second building to accommodate 100 children, which was constructed by Turkish Cooperation an Development Agency (TICA), was put into commission in April 2008.  The Turkish Government provided 1.3 million U.S. dollars for construction of the second building.  165 people, including tutors and medical workers, work with the first two buildings.

The construction of the last fourth building of the orphanage Chorbogh will start next year, Ms. Saidahmadova said.

We will recall that decision to construct a four-building orphanage to accommodate 460 disabled children was made following a fire that broke out at Dushanbe’s orphanage # 1 early on January 8,  2006, killing at least 13 children and leaving at least one other with injuries.  The fire totally engulfed the building, which was house for about 95 mentally handicapped children.  Reports suggested an electrical problem sparked the blaze.
