DUSHANBE, May 28, 2009, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon yesterday received Mr. Jean-Pierre Roth, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank (SNB).
According to presidential press service, they discussed state and prospects of further expansion of economic and financial cooperation between Tajikistan and Switzerland.
Noting that Switzerland is one of Tajikistan’s key donor countries, Rahmon appreciated the Swiss Government’s support for implementation of a number of important projects in Tajikistan and noted that Tajikistan was interested in further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation with Switzerland.
For his part, Mr. Jean-Pierre Roth noted that Switzerland and Tajikistan were among member states of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and some other international financial institutions and that they always supported interests of each other.
During the meeting, it was noted that with support of Switzerland many efficient projects aimed at enhancing various sectors of Tajikistan’s economy as well as mitigating disaster effects and promoting development of the private sector, public associations and microfinance system in the country have been implemented in Tajikistan.
The president highly appraised the role of Switzerland in training of personnel of Tajikistan’s banking system, improvement of monetary policy of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) as well as provision of technical assistance to Tajikistan.
The sides also exchanged views on ways to minimize impact of the global financial and economic crisis on Tajikistan, the press service said.
