DUSHANBE, May 27, 2009, Asia-Plus — Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev today received visiting Kazakh Defense Minister Daniyal Akhmedov.
Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the upper house speaker, said that Ubaidulloyev had expressed satisfaction with the present level of cooperation between the defense ministries of the two countries in all directions and noted that such an interaction promoted strengthening of efforts to fight terrorism, extremism and illicit drug trafficking. Tajik speaker emphasized significant role of peacekeepers from Kazakhstan in reestablishing peace and stability in Tajikistan in the 1990s and noted that memorial to 35 Kazakh peacekeepers that had died in actions in Tajikistan had been erected at Dushanbe’s Dustii Khalqho (Friendship of Peoples) Park in acknowledgement of their significant contribution to the reestablishment of peace in Tajikistan.
In the course of the talks, the two also touched upon issues related to cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.
Daniyal Akhmedov noted that Kazakhstan considered Tajikistan as its reliable friend and partner and was ready to promote further expansion of bilateral cooperation in interest of peoples of the two countries, Saidov said.
