DUSHANBE, May 25, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The board (Shuro) of Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament considered a bill on mutual insurance at a May 25 meeting, presided over the Majlisi Namoyandagon speaker, Saydullo Khairulloyev.

Mutual insurance is a type of insurance where those protected by the insurance (policyholders) also have certain “ownership” rights in the organizations.  These “ownership” rights typically consist of the ability to elect the management of the organization and to participate in a distribution of any net assets or surplus should the organization cease doing business.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, said that the board had also considered amendments to the country’s laws on weapons, operational and search activity, the national bank of Tajikistan (NBT), and joint-stock companies.

Some of these issues will be considered at a regular sitting of the fifth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the third convocation that will be held on May 27, the spokesman said.
