DUSHANBE, May 25, 2009, Asia-Plus — Large plantations have been uncovered and destroyed in the northern Sughd province in an anti-drug operation, dubbed Poppy 2009, which was launched in the country on May 15 and runs through November 30 this year, according to the Drug Control Agency (DCA) press service.
500,512 bushes of hemp have been uncovered and destroyed in Sughd’s Bobojonghafruov district over the last weekends, the DCA press service reported.
In all, some 100 kilograms of narcotics have been seized in Tajikistan over the first ten days of the Poppy 2009 Operation.
