DUSAHNBE, May 20, 2009, Asia-Plus — A 3-member Sitar group led by Dr. Sanchari Bakshi and 6-member Percussion group led by Mr. P. Jaya Bhaskar will be visiting Dushanbe on May 22 and 23, 2009, press release issued by the Indian Embassy in Dushanbe said.
The two groups are sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi. The groups would give a free public concert at “State Philharmonia”, at 17:00 on Saturday, May 23, 2009. The event is open for everyone and is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Republic of Tajikistan.
Sitar is one of the popular instruments of modern day Indian Classical Music. It is an improvised form of the “Tritantri Veena” an ancient instrument having 3 strings. Dr Sanchari Bakshi is a prominent Indian Sitar player. Dr Sanchari Bakshi has widely traveled and participated in all major music festival in India. ‘Tala Vadya Katcheri’ (Percussion group) is an ensemble of traditional drums and classical rhythm instruments like Mridangam, Ghatam, Tabla, Thavil and Morsing along with Violin. The ensemble is reflective of Unity in Diversity of Indian percussion instruments. The ensemble is led by Mr. Jaya Bhaskar on Mridangam. He started giving performances from the age of 12 years. He performed in many arenas in India. He is now working in Hyderabad radio station and received many awards and titles.
