DUSHANBE, February 7, 2011, Asia-Plus — Officers from the Interior Ministry department empowered to combat drug trafficking (drug police) have seized a large amount of narcotics in Dushanbe.

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), an operation carried out by the drug police officers on February 6 led to the arrest of Afghan national Jumakhon Abdusamad in Dushanbe.  A package containing 33 kilograms of hashish was confiscated from him.

On the same day, two residents of Khatlon’s Farkhor district were detained in Dushanbe on suspicion of drug pushing.  “2 kilograms of cannabis and one kilogram of heroin were confiscated from them,” the source at a MoI said.

Officers from the police department in Khatlon’s Qumsangir district intercepted more than 4 kilograms of heroin on February 6.
