DUSHANBE, January 20, 2009, Asia-Plus — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced the establishment of an Advisory Group of six eminent persons to advise on institutional and human resources management under the Bank’s long-term strategic framework, Strategy 2020, press release issued by the ADB said.
The Advisory Group, chaired by Mr. Jean Lemierre, former President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and currently Senior Advisor to the Chairman of BNP Paribas Group, brings together experts with a wealth of experience and knowledge on the region”s development challenges, the role of multilateral development banks and human resources management. The Advisory Group will assist ADB in strengthening its institutional effectiveness by advising Bank Management on institutional and HR arrangements needed to better align ADB to its new strategic directions under Strategy 2020 with its vision of an Asia and Pacific region free of poverty.
The Advisory Group’s members include Dr. Isher Judge Ahluwalia, Chairperson, Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations; Mr. Stephen Allen, Executive Director, Global Head of Infrastructure and Utilities Advisory, Macquarie Capital Group; Mr. Dominic Barton, Chairman for Asia, McKinsey & Company; Mr. Tatsuo Tanaka, Deputy President and Chief Executive, Global Business Unit, The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ; and Mr. Shengman Zhang, President, Citigroup, Asia Pacific and former Managing Director General of the World Bank Group.
ADB recently completed a comprehensive review of its Human Resources Strategy and will formulate and implement human resources action plans to support the implementation of Strategy 2020.

The establishment of advisory groups is part of ADB”s institution-wide learning arrangements where top field experts, professionals, and scholars are invited to share their experiences and knowledge with ADB staff.
ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in the Asia and Pacific region through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, it is owned by 67 members – 48 from the region. In 2007, it approved $10.1 billion of loans, $673 million of grant projects, and technical assistance amounting to $243 million.
