KHUJAND, January 20, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Officers from the customs control point at the Khujand airport seized nearly six kilograms of heroin on Saturday January 17, a source at the Sughd regional customs service told Asia-Plus Monday afternoon.

Inspection of passengers on the Khujand-Moscow flight found 2.811 kilograms of heroin hidden in the luggage belonging to the Khujand resident Ravshan Rahimov and 2.918 kilograms of heroin hidden in a suitcase belonging to the Khujand resident Farhod Poulodov, the source said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Rahimov and Poulodov on drug trafficking charges and an investigation is under way.
