DUSHANBE, March 1, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Local mobile phone operators have welcomed the establishment of the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan.

“There are many problems in the telecommunications sector today and the establishment of the Communications Service will allow tackling some of these problems faster,” Ghaffor Erkayev, head of the Association of Mobile  Communication Companies of Tajikistan (AMCCT), told Asia-Plus in an interview.

He expressed hope that interaction between the Communication Service and mobile phone operators would be efficient and the AMCCT experts and representatives from mobile phone operators would be invited to discuss serious problems arising in the country’s telecommunications sector.

“There are still enough problems in the telecommunications sector, including unsolved issues regarding taxable base of the cellular communications market and regulation of the country’s telecommunications market,” Erkayev said.

We will recall that the Ministry of Transport and Communications was divided into two separate bodies – the Ministry of Transport and the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan, and Beg Zuhurov, who had previously been Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, was appointed to head the Communications Service.
