DUSHANBE, April 4, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI) and Canog Energy Inc. (Canada) has signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of energy.

The document was reportedly inked by Gul Sherali, Minister of Energy and Industries of Tajikistan, and Stuart Squires, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Canog Energy Inc, in Dushanbe on Aril 1.

According to Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), the document provides for participation of Canog Energy Inc. in construction of the Nourobod-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPPP) on the Obi Khingob River in eastern Tajikistan and exploration of oil and gas prospects in Tajikistan with further construction of oil refineries.

On the same day, Canog Energy Inc. President Stuart Squires, Kuwaiti Regional Marketing CO (RMC) President Loay Sami Fahad and RMC Vice-President Isam Al-Azazi accompanied by CCI Deputy Chairman Asanali Karamaliyev visited the Ministry of Finance, where they held talks with Tajik Deputy Finance Minister, Jamshed Norinov, to consider laws regulating activities of foreign investors in Tajikistan, Tajikistan’s tax code and preferences.

Norinov reportedly informed them of Tajikistan’s plans for enhancement of its energy sector.  He, in particular, pointed out an expediency of construction of mini hydropower stations in remote mountain areas of Tajikistan.

Canog Energy Inc. is a private Canadian Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Corporation.  According to information posted on its website, its goal is to assist China in increasing its domestic and international oil and natural gas production by transferring modern oil and natural gas technology, and training its people in the efficient use of these technologies.  Canog can offer a wide range of technologies and skills from drilling to production including the latest in oilfield computer technology.
