DUSHANBE, April 19, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan’s Bureau on Human Rights and Rule of Law (BHR) has released the annual report,

Human Rights Situation in Tajikistan – 2010

.

The BHR director, Ms. Nargis Zokirova, says the report includes monthly reviews describing various aspects of the human rights situation in the country (women’s rights, children’s rights, access to justice, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, respect for political rights, etc).

The report, in particular, notes that along with successes made by Tajikistan in the field of human rights certain problems regarding observance of human rights exist in the country.

According to the report, one of the most serious problem is increasing case of lawsuits filed by officials against journalists and media outlets.  Besides, cases of forced eviction and demolition of residential buildings as part of the municipal redevelopment plan are continuing in Dushanbe; the problem of eviction and compensation for demolition of residential buildings have affected residents of Gorno Badakhshan as well.

Among success made in the country in the field of human rights last year are endorsement of the judicial and legal reform program for 2011-2013 and adoption of a new criminal procedure code.  The establishment of the national council on corruption is also an important step towards intensifying fight against corruption in the country, the report said.
