KHOROG, January 8, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Rotational power cutoffs have been introduced in the city of Khorog and nearby districts.

The Pamir Energy Company (PamirEnergy) announced yesterday that the introduced rotational power cutoffs seek to curb the region’s rising electricity consumption in connection with cold weather.

A black frost came this week and it is already the third day that the daytime temperature in Khorog has been -15°C – 20°C.

The source at PamirEnergy said that the rotational power cutoffs would affect, first off all, consumers whose electricity debts exceeded 80 percent.  Electricity supplies to them will be cut off for four hours per day — two hours in the morning and two in the evening).

The rotational power cutoffs are to remain in effect until electricity consumption volumes reduce to reasonable limits, the source said.
